Studies and formulations have found a unique pattern of language development in children. Children develop it more or less, as per their abilities or surrounding atmosphere, but going through this language pattern will help you recognize, as a dependable parent judging your own expectations for your child. Expecting a lot from a child put him under a pressure, which can be harmful to his growth and future.
Here are some signs of language development, age wise, based on years of studies:
Vocal development starts in children and they respond to name and angry and friendly tones. He turns his head and eyes in response to human voices.
Child at this age use one or more words with apt meaning. He understands easy vocal or physical orders.
The level of vocabulary of a child at this age is about 15-20 words, which are mostly nouns. He can repeat words.
Child starts to recognize some objects of his atmosphere by name. His vocabulary rises by some 150-200 words and can join words to make a sentence but with poor fluency. He has poor control of volume and pitch in this age.
Child may increase vocabulary level by 900-1000 words and is able to say three word sentences clearly. He can identify the main parts of the body though can’t remember the names. He can provide the right information about his sex, name and age. He understands simple questions about normal activities and atmosphere, do not expect a perfect answer from him at this age though.
Child can remember the names of familiar animals and can recognize one or more color by name. He verbalizes his activities highly and repeats sounds and phrases in his talks widely.
A child can count up to 10 digits as per the studies of language development. He makes less grammatical mistakes and has a sound understanding of morning, afternoon, evening and night. He understands day and time signs like today, yesterday, tomorrow, later and before in a proper way.
Child is able to tell sentence completely with meaning in this age which is easily understandable. He can tell a short story as normal description is developed in him.
